A fan of rock? Like the "heavier side"? Then tune in.

The New Pacific is a California alt-rock band full of "heavy hook-laden rock" composed of Alec Strickland (guitar/vocals), Brett Carpenter (guitar), Dustin Martin (bass) and Brian Perry (drums). The band just released their latest EP, Heavy Towards the Light, which includes songs like "Float", "Anchor" and "Yesterday". It's really good and I recommend to give it a listen especially if you are more old school. In a world with synthesizers and constant editing, this is a more raw rock album that is straight forward and melodic. "It is so easy to be perfect behind a computer" as Alec puts it.

A week ago I had the pleasure of catching up with Alec to talk about the new EP. The New Pacific in its essence is made up of several things. "We all met in Tennessee. I, myself, am from Tennessee. However, later on Dustin I were based in Texas and you know, we all grew up omg rock music like Jimmy Eat World and connected." The New Pacific put in other words is a "solo project that turned into a band."

I asked Alec about the new EP and he mentioned that the song "Anchor" was recorded by Steve Evetts (The Cure, Every Time I Die). Alec said that Steve was the perfect choice because he understood exactly what the band wanted and really has a "heavier ear" and is great with melody. I then asked whether there was an underlying theme to the album considering the song names and he immediately said, "the whole theme is that it is our time". He added that that a big inspiration behind this album was that him and his wife were trying to have a kid and they ended up having twins! It is always great to hear  that such wonderful inspiration is behind a project like this.

After talking for a bit, I asked Alec what the band's plan for 2019 was and he said that "Lost and Found" is a new song they are working on with Steve Evetts and there are other new surprises to come. The band also plans on doing some touring next year!
