Did you listen to "Cangrejita" and wonder why does this guy's voice sound so familiar?. Well, it might be because Jonaz was the lead singer of the iconic Mexican band: Plastilina Mosh! There is no way you have been to Mexican wedding or club and not heard the words "Mr. P-M-O-S-H". It is a classic and a staple to the party scene! Jonaz's voice  and presence has been emblematic since 1997.

About a month ago, Jonaz released a sweet summer tune by the name "Cangrejita" which alludes to the city and beach life. It's of course, a great song to play at the family cookout or even at the gym. It still has the classic Jonaz/Plastilina Mosh party vibe. The music video itself is nostalgic and showcases an 80's style video game.

Last week I got to talk to Jonaz and we discussed quarantine, hobbies, and music:

D.O.M.E (Pao): How are you?

Jonaz: Good, good.

D.O.M.E: Given that we are in quarantine, have you found any new hobbies? Or have you found that you have more time to make music?

Jonaz: No new hobbies. I've been listening a lot to things I have. I have also spent more time with my  family. At least now, I have more time to spend on my music. I am trying to write music that I have not written before. Something more personal and "dark".
**As a side note, Jonaz added that he has been playing more video games because his wife bought him a new console and he now has time for it due to quarantine. He is currently playing. a lot of Skyrim.

D.O.M.E: Before we talk about the new song, I do have to point something out. A lot of your videos feel somewhat nostalgic and reference certain things. Is that intentional?

Jonaz: It happens naturally. Not all ideas are mine. Maybe people look at me and think of me as "nostalgic looking" hahaha. I do have a curiosity when it comes to different genres.
**As we continued talking, he mentioned that he wanted to try writing a waltz..

D.O.M.E: And what can you tell me about "Cangrejita"?

Jonaz: It happened because I realized I became obsessed with Mexican music (he was referring to norteño music) and a year and a half ago I also realized that I had not made house pop music in a while "a-la Plastilina Mosh". Popera-Latina. While making it, I remembered this one time we played at the beach and we (the band) were dressed in all black and converse hence the lyrics: "tú eres cangrejita playera y yo soy rata de ciudad."

D.O.M.E: I noticed you made a bunch of funny videos last night (last Wednesday) as "La Tia Jonaza" and you mentioned the latest tendencies. What is your favorite tendency?

Jonaz: I am not big on tendencies.  I found that one (face app) because of people doing it. I don't really look out for what's popular. I do what I like to do.

D.O.M.E: You are good at the funny videos. Have you ever considered starting a Youtube channel for your funny videos?

Jonaz: Maybe. I'm not a stand-up guy but I like sketches so if I do, it would be sketches.

D.O.M.E: Ok before we finish up this interview, what are you listening to at the moment?

Jonaz: I'm listening to a lot of Jazz, Club de Losers, Down to the Bone and ect. Every two to three years, I listen to a lot of Prince.
** Jonaz talked about many other musicians ranging from France, Brooklyn and Cuba.

A big thank you to Jonaz! Check out his music if you haven't already!
