Let me start of by saying, if you are looking for an amazing food experience then you are definitely in the right place. Mimbre, located in Ciudad Juarez, is the small local restaurant of your dreams, no I'm not exaggerating! This multi-cuisine restaurant describes itself as a kitchen of inspiration and offers you a changing menu full of colorful and delicious food. You can find them at Avenida Hermanos Escobar 2619. When contacting the people behind this restaurant, I was very interested in how the concept of this inspiring kitchen came to be. While speaking to Bricia, she explained that a while ago she was studying gastronomy in Puebla, Mexico when she met her now boyfriend and partner, David. She focused on Indian and Thai food, while David became a baker. Bricia explained that their original plan was to work in Mexico City, but while they were waiting to get everything in order they began to create a concept of their own. Bricia and David began to brainstorm ideas for a restaurant of their own never imagining that their ideas would come to be. As they kept planning, they began to fall in love with their concept, and eventually decided to leave their original plan behind to follow their inspiration. The concept of the restaurant itself came about from their need to express themselves through their dishes. They both want to keep evolving as chefs and they do this through their constantly changing menu. Bricia and David want to provide the city with something different, something with originality and heart. It is important for them to show the essence of Mexico and the area mixed with new flavors and ideas. It is very important for Bricia and David that their menu keeps introducing new dishes to the public, but all their dishes are equally amazing so don't be afraid to try something new. You will be happy to know that Mimbre offers vegetarian options for the majority of their dishes. On my visit to Mimbre, I tried the Grapefruit Salad and the Pad Thai with chicken, but you can order this dish with shrimp or the veggie option. I also recommend the seasonal water that Mimbre offers so that you can really enjoy the way they incorporate the essence of Mexico in every single aspect of their restaurant. Believe me you need to visit this amazing restaurant the next time you are looking for a great place to eat! Ps. Bricia and David have a bakery where they sell all their mouthwatering baked goods AND they offer cooking workshops, if you're interested don't hesitate to ask them for more information.

My coffee hunt took me back to Ciudad Juarez this week. I know, I know, I keep telling you about all these places in Juarez, but there are so many new cool places popping up you won't want to miss them. This coffee shop is definitely worth the trip, you can find them at Av. Lopez Mateos 1288 Local 4 Fracc. Los Olmos. This coffee shop is very small, but full of many surprises. When discussing their inspiration behind this local coffee shop the thing that came up the most was Mexico. When the owner took time to travel across Mexico, he realized that his country had many things to offer that many people do not know about, or simply take for granted. From here, he took on the task of trying to get people to realize that Mexico does not fall short to other countries and to show them many of the good things their country has to offer. Maya Cafe demonstrates their love and admiration for Mexico through their menu. The food menu includes many items that are considered part of traditional Mexican cuisine like quesadillas, chilaquiles, churros, conchas, etc.. They also give a Mexican spin to their coffee beverages like the Mocha Maya which is a mocha latte, but this beverage uses artisan chocolate from Mexico. There is also the Machata and the Jamaya which are combinations of coffee with horchata water and jamaica, or hibiscus, water. The coffee shop has a very laid back ambiance that makes you want to stay to enjoy your food and coffee in the company of your friends. Sometimes there are some exhibitions of local artwork that you can enjoy during your visit. If you do plan a visit, I recommend that you try their Mocha Maya, which is completely different than any other mocha latte you have ever tried. You can definitely taste the unique chocolate flavor in your coffee and it will remind you of your grandma's homemade hot chocolate. Food-wise, you should try their Quesadillas de Jamaica, which are quesadillas in a blue corn tortilla with hibiscus flower in them. This dish will give you a taste of Mexico, and it will leave you wanting more. Go visit Maya Cafe I promise you will not regret it! Downtown El Paso is full of little shops hidden in all the different streets. All of these shops are so unique and they all offer you many different options, you'll have no choice but to make a couple of trips to try all the new things you find. This time around, our Downtown trip took us to Pike Street Market, you can find them in 207 E Mills Ave.
If you're looking for a place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch, then I recommend giving Pike Street Market a try. They are open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Pike Street Market offers a wide variety of breakfast options as well as lunch options. If you're looking for something lighter you could grab one of their coffees and some of their homemade baked goods. The staff at Pike Street Market are always super friendly and glad to help you out with whatever you need. You can stay and enjoy their delicious food in one of their many tables, or you can take it to go. If you are in the Downtown area, you can take advantage of their deliveries. As for what you should try when you go to Pike Street Market, I recommend trying their signature Cajeta Latte with one of their homemade muffins. This latte is to die for, and completely different than what other places around town offer. The staff at Pike Street Market recommended the Breakfast Wrap which consists of eggs and veggies wrapped in a spinach tortilla. And for lunch, there are a great variety of sandwiches, salads, and soups you can try from. Next time you are Downtown looking for a casual breakfast or lunch spot, make sure to check out Pike Street Market! If you haven't already heard of this pub, then now is the time to head on downtown and enjoy a drink, or a few, from their selection of craft beers and wine. Oh, and did I mention they also offer delicious food? That's right Craft & Social not only offers great drinks, but great food selection as well. You can find them Downton at 305 E Franklin Ave. Craft & Social has been serving the Downtown El Paso community for a little over three years. The love for craft beer was the main inspiration behind this place, and this is reflected in the variety of beers they have available. At Craft & Social the beer selection is very meticulously thought out and is carefully chosen in order to offer it's customers the best options in town. So when you visit Craft & Social, you can be assured that there was a lot of thought put into your beer. As for the ambiance, this place's main goal is to be as welcoming as possible. The pub is very simple and basic so that everyone can feel comfortable and enjoy their time there. They also want to foster a creative environment that reflects the environment of Downtown El Paso, where "all the cool things are happening." As for what you should try during you next visit, Patrick, "the only cool one," was quick to help us out with beer and food recommendations. Beer wise, it really depends on your taste in beer, but at the moment he recommended the Tangerine 98 and one of their ciders. If you are wanting to try something new and you can't decide, then you could try their "Brew du Jour." If you are planning to eat while you enjoy your craft beer, everyone at Craft & Social recommends the Cheeser Sandwhich (which believe me is delicious!) and if you are not vegetarian then you can add some prosciutto to make an already amazing sandwich even better. Hesitate no longer and head over to Craft & Social for some yummy food and great beer! Are you ever in the mood for food that will help make you feel healthy and good for the day? If your answer is yes, then I recommend going to The Green Ingredient. You can visit one of their two locations: Downtown El Paso in 2011 East Main St or 611 Dew Dr. inside of Push West Fitness.
The inspiration behind this restaurant and juice bar is definitely just another reason why you must go and enjoy some of their foods and drinks. The owner, Jacqueline Cordova, was studying computer science when her close friend passed away from breast cancer, the reason this is important is because her friend was allergic to the chemo's anesthesia. Cordova decided to do some research about patients with cancer, and she found that many patients got better when they engaged in a healthy diet. "You can feed the disease or combat it." This motivated Cordova to create a place where people could have access to top quality ingredients. She believes it's important to make you look inside out, not the other way around. Cordova wants to give everyone a place where they can trust someone to provide them with top quality products that will promote better diets. Jacqueline makes everything from scratch every day. If you are interested in learning more about healthy eating you can join one of her classes downtown. These classes involve doctors and allergists that will work close with you to help you make healthier choices. As a plus, you can now find some items at the local Whole Foods Market. Remember: healthy eating is not a trend, but rather part of a solution. |
